Juandering in Manila 2 (Video Montage)
Juandering in Manila 2 was the second installment of JaywalkersPH’s photo challenge. It was held in different locations within Manila City - showcasing the city’s beautiful and wonderful areas. Juandering in Manila 2 created a new space for hobbyist photographers to test their skills not just in photography but also in knowing a lot about their country.

Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts
After dumping several 19 hours of adjusting her facial anatomy and making her look really dirty, this is what I came up with. I almost gave up painting this piece because the first few drafts of my painting didn’t look like it was Paltrow. I also had a hard time adjusting the lighting of the whole painting. The first one I did had pink highlight on the side of her face instead of orange. What I did was I changed entirely her expression, the lighting, and made her eyes look like she’s shedding tears. I needed to examine how she moves her mouth by watching 3 movies she starred in (Iron Man 3, Contagion, Sylvia Plath) because most of the references on the internet are smiling photos of her.
She’s damn hard to paint without her signature smile.

More progress:
I’m having a hard time retaining the subject’s face. Making ‘faces’ dirty and altering the emotion of a subject is one hell of a hard work. It requires study of the subject’s facial anatomy. So before I even started painting this one, I did studies of her face and tried to gather enough references of her different facial expressions but I failed since all the references on the internet is a smiling face of her; so I tried making her ‘frown’ to match what I visualized with this painting and I’ve reworked on it several times already. What I altered, moreover, is the lighting of the painting. That pink highlights on the right of her face is an experiment that I’ve been doing since my last painting. I’ve been doing these anatomical and highlight alterations since I learned putting texture on my works but this piece, by far, is the hardest I’ve worked on.
I’m not giving up on this one, though. I just need a rest.
Oh, by the way, if you can guess who this is already at this stage, that means I’ve actually done something right….but it’s not enough. So, can you guess who this is?
