I’ve learned many things after I graduated from high school; things that helped me become the person that I am today. But I ask myself, “Do I really have to graduate first before knowing these things?” Experience is the best teacher, sure, but isn’t it great to have an access to a website of knowledge that can help students during their high school lives?
It is for this very reason why High School Life Magazine was founded. Its website HSLifeMag.com is an online publication concerning the Filipino high school students. The publication started as a pinch of idea from its establisher—an idea aiming to help the Filipino youth maintain a productive yet enjoyable high school life by sharing ideas and knowledge gained from the experience of the staff who were once high school students themselves.
The publication not only talks about the technicalities of surviving high school, but also tackles different topics on social educational awareness and issues. The website, HSLifeMag.com, has a community forum which has available sections for students, educators, and parents for them to interact and discuss varying topics on surviving, giving tips, and helping fellow students. When users had so much of the boring educational shenanigans, they can also share their thoughts on topics in coping with high school pressures like peers, grades, earning allowance, “love”, their teachers, and many more.
The current issue of the magazine covers issues on proper grooming; being “in” to the pressuring social world that high school is; tips on having an effective mind while being socially active; maintaining healthy relationships with your teachers, peers, and parents; deciding your university and college course; and many more other school-related topics. It also discusses the very issue that Philippine education is facing: the K+12 system and things on education like jobs and the out-of-school youth. It also has tips on how to earn and budget your daily and weekly allowance; and also, I wouldn’t address it as a problem, but an issue of the Filipino youth—the so-called “jejemons.” I won’t say much about what the article contained so that you’re gonna have to see the articles for yourself in which you’re gonna have to subscribe first before you can view them ; but trust me, I scanned through the articles, and it’s worth the read!
