nicotiotuico asked: Paano ka natuto ng traditional painting? And please share some of your techniques and principles in caricature making. I will be joining an editorial cartooning competition and I know I have to nail it this time. :/

I had my formal painting class last 2010. In caricature making, it is very important to keenly observe the subject’s facial details and features. Breakdown the features’ components into its very basic geometric form to get its shape. The concept of a caricature is to exaggerate the essence of people’s faces and turn them into a satirical cartoon-ish art. Remember that when making a caricature, you must ‘know’ your subject. You don’t just simply exaggerate a facial feature. You should observe a particular feature in a person’s face that can be exaggerated. For example, my last caricature (Liam Neeson) subject’s nose is a bit too large so I exaggerated it more to deliver an impact of humor towards the audience. My other caricature (Levitt), had a natural pouted lips so I made it more ‘pouty’ and elongated + I extended his neck.
