My all-time favourite artists » Jan Van Eyck
Flemish. Considered one of the most significant Northern European painters. Exceptionally for his time, van Eyck often signed and dated his frames. Its because of his habit of signing his work that his reputation has survived and that attribution has not been as difficult and uncertains as with other first generation artist of the early Netherlandish school.
+ the present expression ” *name* was here ” came from van Eyck’s magnum opus, the Arnolfini portrait, where he signed “Johannes de Eyck fuit hic. 1434” which translates to “Jan van Eyck was here. 1434”
My Lord, my all-time favourite, Jan van Eyck, Flemish artist from Bruges. Northern Renaissance, 1430-1550.
(if you’re following me on Twitter, I derived my Twitter name (Jan Vin Eyck) from this guy’s. lol)
